What color should I pick to change dark brown hair to light brown?

I have dark brown hair, sometimes it looks black, and I want it to be lighter to make it more brown. Since it is dark, I don't think that some colors close to it will affect it. Do permanent colors change your hair color more than the 28 shampoo wash out ones?

1. yes they do. permenant will change it completely to the color but the 28 washes ones probably won't work on your hair seeing how dark it is. i'd say go for the permenant anyway and if you don't like it they can always match your hair color and dye it back. but be careful with the colors you choose if you have really dark eyebrows.
2. do permanent....get like light golden brown....it will make your hair into medium golden brown. I dyed my hair with a dark blonde hairdye and got a light brown out of it too...
3. Nutmeg color. Really light, really soft and looks good on almost everyone.
